HIP Pilates was created by Lisa Bradshaw of Lisa B Pilates (www.lisabpilates.com).
The concept is to bring more of a dynamic cardio workout into a Pilates class. We use weights to increase load, and as well as classical mat work exercises, we do lots of squats, lunges, and planks, using the principles of Pilates, but getting the heart rate into the cardio zone, into the fat burning zone!
Increased heart rate encourages better circulation, so more oxygen feeding our muscles, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease (the UK biggest killer), helps to reduce blood pressure, and to manage blood sugar levels, which reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
HIP also improves muscle balance, motor skills, coordination, balance and functional day to day activities.
